Bullitt school employees Social Security numbers mistakenly released By Sara Cunningham • scunningham@courier-journal.com • October 21, 2009 * * * Print this page * E-mail this article * Share + [delicious.gif] Del.icio.us + [facebook.gif] Facebook + [digg.gif] Digg + [reddit.gif] Reddit + [newsvine.gif] Newsvine + + [twitter.gif] Twitter * What’s this? A Bullitt County Public Schools employee accidentally sent an e-mail message to about 1,800 school district workers Tuesday that included the names and Social Security numbers of 676 district employees. Advertisement The employees were identified as not having completed the districts 2010 open-enrollment process for insurance, and the e-mail was intended as a reminder to complete the process, said Superintendent Keith Davis. Davis said he was included on the list of people affected. The employee did not mean to include Social Security numbers, Davis said. The original message was sent at 7:47 a.m. Tuesday. The employee realized the mistake and recalled the message at 7:59 a.m. The districts technology department made sure the messages were removed from e-mail accounts, Davis said. School board attorney Eric Farris said the district sent letter to all affected employees Tuesday afternoon to notify them of the mistake. Reporter Sara Cunningham can be reached at (502) 582-4335.
